Summary

In each Community Matters, we will be featuring one of the contributors, supporters, movers, catalyzers, and influencers who are changing the ecosystem in amazing ways.

We received some comments about the reception of the first Community Matters 01. Overall, the feeling was strong about the excellent community engagement and pride of the ability of our members. The interview helped everyone know more about Jon. One reader said, “It’s fantastic — I love the photo of Jon — it really brings the community to life.” Community Matters is a great way to learn about those who are building the community and express our gratitude.

We are excited to highlight some of the exceptional, talented, community contributors who are helping us build a more distributed web. In this edition, we are spotlighting Eduardo Moreira, Eysstech, Holochain en Español.

EYSS team: Eduardo, far left

About Eduardo:

A CEO with international experience, Eduardo has worked and lived in Latin-America, the United States, and in Europe. With an MBA and background experience as an IT Director in various multinational companies with locations around the Globe, he is now focused on helping us achieve efficiencies and create positive market disruptions by using technology as part of our Digital Transformation programs.

Why did you choose to get involved in the community work of Holo, as opposed to other projects?

I really trust the project and the team behind it — what’s been done is credible, do-able, and responsible. Holochain solves many issues in today’s Internet world. Most other projects seem to fail in one way or the other, but I think Holochain has all the components to become a total success.

What accomplishments, highlights, or goals would you like to share regarding growing and expanding the community?

So far, we have been able to:
- Create a Holochain en Español Channel on Mattermost, Facebook, and Twitter.
- Create the Holochain Venezuela Channel, which has already had their first Meetup, and should have the second at the end of March.
- Get USB (University Simon Bolivar) — one of the best universities in Venezuela and South America — interested in the technology. We will create channels of collaboration with them and have regular talks and Meetups at their University and private technology park.
- Publish many Holochian articles in Mas Newspaper, a Hispanic newspaper in the UK.
- Hire a community manager to work exclusively on the Holochain en Español community.
- Hire a translator dedicated to translate the most important documentation (Green Paper, White Paper, etc.) into Spanish.

In the face of fierce competition with Amazon, who have been planning to develop a decentralized cloud service business, does Holo intend to focus on establishing the ecosystem for hApps or to seek partnerships with other large firms to share the hosting market?

By virtue of Holochain and Holo’s design, anyone can deploy Holo hosting nodes or private dApps on any cloud services’ host — Amazon or any other hosting provider. There is no need for a partnership to have Amazon servers running Holo, and why someone would want to pay Amazon’s premium for that is not exactly clear. If Amazon is claiming to offer “decentralized” cloud computing only on their own platform, those claims are an abuse of language. Marketing centralized cloud services as “decentralized” is as ridiculous as Amazon’s previous marketing of “serverless cloud computing,” which consisted of renting storage and processing on their servers. The twisting of language to mean it’s opposite may be clever, but it doesn’t change the underlying reality of what they are delivering.
